Outstanding experience last night at Cafe Cafe, a charming pizza/trattoria here in Santa Fe. My wife, father-in-law, and I happened upon it while walking to our hotel and decided to give it a try. Cafe Cafe's interior is nothing fancy, but it's cozy and welcoming. We had salads, pizza (Chicken Pesto), pasta (Veal Marsala), and a decent bottle of Cabernet (Louis M Martini)... all for under $100. We were pleasantly surprised that our server, Letitia, was also French-speaking (plus Italian/Spanish). She and the hostess adroitly managed 9-10 tables, while charming us with stories from her childhood in Belgium and later life in New Mexico. I would HIGHLY recommend Cafe Cafe as a tasty, affordable dining option in Santa Fe. And don't forget to ask for Letitia!

We were referred by the folks at Guadalupe Inn, had an amazing dinner! Everything was delicious! We had the Calamari, Risotto with Truffle Oil, two pizzas that were kid friendly...we did have a younger kiddo with us that ordered the Penne Alfredo and she loved it! I had the special vegetarian meal...with Chicken on it of course, because meat is good! The service was fantastic and the atmosphere is delightful with live music playing! David made us feel welcome and the staff took us right in! We will definitely be back soon!

We were here only for gelato. It was disappointingly too cold and hard, and the vanilla was icy and flavorless. It certainly wasn't fresh.

Confession, I do not actually like pizza. I know, gasp. Pizza will never be something i suggest, and it's never something i crave. However, my little ones love it. So often we're in places that are known for pizza and I'm looking for alternatives. This little eatery exceeded expectations in every way. The kiddos shared a pizza, and both proclaimed it the best they've ever tasted. I had their spinach and strawberry goat cheese salad, and the calamari artichoke appetizer. With a glass of house chianti, it was a perfect dinner. One word about their truffle oil dipping sauce, it was literally the best I've had anywhere, and to me truffle flavor can be tricky to get just right. Desserts sounded divine but we were too full. A great location on top of a great taste too!!!!!!

Best Italian food in Santa Fe!! Everything is made from scratch. Even the pasta. The service is amazing and friendly. You have to try the pouched pears. Ey Dios mio!! I didn't want to share. Guys, want a nice place to take your lady without the high price? This is the place.

Superb food and exceptional customer service! First let me start off by saying that the owners served our party of seven when they were actually supposed to be closed. We were headed to a local distillery tasting room only a block away when we decided food might be a good idea before sampling whiskey, vodka and gin. When I popped in to look at a menu, one of the owners told us they were in between the lunch and dinner service, but he said he could accommodate us anyway. He set a table, took our orders, probably assisted with the prep, served us (the food came quickly), bussed the table, and dealt with the bill split among three credit cards. You don't normally experience outstanding and speedy customer service these days like this, especially in Santa Fe! Oh by the way, the pizzas were fabulous. In addition my wife has gluten allergies, and they had multiple options for her including GF pasta. If we ever come back to Santa Fe, this place will be on the short-list of places to eat.

Delicious! Great service! Great atmosphere! I had the Fried Calamari and Risotto Cake for appetizers. For dinner I had the Special Mushroom Pizza and it was all sooooo good!!! For dessert I indulged in the Affogato. I will be back to Santa Fe and will be back to Cafe Cafe. Thank you for a great dining experience.

While this was our default pizza place for the past few years, due to an unfortunate experience I find myself pizzaless in Santa Fe until I find a new joint. A few weeks ago I ordered 2 pizzas. Extra toppings on each...run at about 2 bucks a piece, but asides from the pineapple, sausage and all, I must have accidentally ordered off the secret menu and asked for hair on my pizza. I took the third bite and there was a long hair. I pulled it from my mouth and free of the cheese and gave that hair the benefit of the doubt that it was indeed my own. I finished that piece with no further incident. Meanwhile, boyfriend is chomping down sans hair. (different pizza) So, I take out my second slice. In the first few bites it happens again. Bummed out that I have to take in percentages and this is likely not my own hair, I remove the pizza from my presence and pout. Flash forward to the next afternoon. I'm starving. The hair pizza is just sitting there in the fridge and I decide to give it one more go. I heat up the oven and get it perfect and bubbling...put it on a plate and hope for the best. The best would have been another long blond or brown hair. I wasn't so lucky...I got a short and curly. Sorry, 1, 2, 3 hairs you're out.

I as in town and stopped in at cigar shop nearby and was talking with the owner who told me if I wanted a steak, to go to Cafe Cafe and that was the best in town. Well I went and it was nice. Interior dark like many Italian restaurants, not bad, created a warm mood. Some slices of warm Italian bread (a hint of herbs) with a delicious pesto-like spread. As much as I wanted to try the steak, I declined and went with the special, a green chile and buffalo lasagna. It was delicious. It came out piping hot and I constantly burned my mouth, but it was so delicious and flavor full. I added a few crushed red pepper flakes, but I was wrong and it only took away from the food's flavor. It was a thick piece and I ate it and felt full but not bloated. The owner made numerous rounds to talk to all the customers. He is from Binghamton, NY (which is near where I went to school) and travelled to work in other areas of the country. He has owned it for about 9 months. And I advise, if the rest of the food is as good as mine, he will be staying put. If, and when, I return to Santa Fe, I will have to try the steak.

Very good food and incredible service. We stopped here as we were staying next door and a huge thunderstorm rolled in. I have to say I was pleased we did. The pizza was great and super fresh tasting. The olive paste and bread was awesome! The risotto is to die for! Share bc it's very rich! Great spaghetti as well. Service was impeccable and attentive.

Incredible pizza, and even better service!! I got the meatball pizza with goat cheese added on, the goat cheese really made the pizza. It was delicious!!! I highly recommend splitting the 10" though, because my boyfriend and I could each only finish half of our pies. Our waitress was one of the best I've ever seen. She was so polite, attentive, and she made us feel like we were old regulars even though this was our first dining experience there. The live music was great, and not too loud. Loved this place!! Tell Dave to hook you up!

Really good. All the pizzas were great. Great place. Great for kids as well. The hot chocolate my kids ordered even came with an ice cube so they could drink it right away.

We were in town for a family vacation. We wanted nice food without the hassle of all the tourists. Also, we needed a place that is child friendly for our 7-year old daughter. Cafe Cafe fit the requirements in every way. I think their strategy was to be away from old town, provide a nice atmosphere and wow clients with food and service. It works well. Food: Calamari/artichoke appetizer (excellent); bread with olive tapenade (fantastic); Chicken tortilla soup (hearty with some spice); Linguine with clams in red sauce (fresh pasta and nice sauce); Shrimp with Penne (shrimp cooked just right); Penne with marinara and meatball children's dish (adult-size portion for only $6 and tasty). Service: David Dawley is the GM and one of the waiters. He is enthusiastic, professional and very warm. He brings it all together. The rest of the staff were prompt, professional and friendly. Child Friendliness: 10/10. Extensive child's menu with generous portions. Basically, the items on the adult menu that a child is interested in comes in child portions and is about $6. Wine: The list is very complete and has a good selection of both Italian wines and CA options that go well with Italian wine. I had a 2010 Meiomi Belle Glos Pinot Noir from the CA Central Coast. This wine was huge body and flavored. Ambiance: Quiet enough to talk and roomy. They have live music on Saturday evenings and its perfect for the background.

We stayed at La Fonda on the Plaza for one night and got a recommendation for food near the Plaza. The concierge stated that Cafe Cafe was not in walking distance. We didn't buy it and wound up making our way to this awesome little spot. It was my birthday and I wanted a special place for dinner. Cafe Cafe was it. The service was spectacular. Our main waitress was probably among the nicest people we've ever interacted with in Santa Fe. She was fun, friendly, nice, and gave excellent recommendations. Her backup wait staff member was also very friendly and helpful. Now, onto the food. The complimentary focaccia bread with sun dried tomato and olive spread was delicious and the "Pizza Special" for two was a terrific deal. It provides 2 glasses of wine, 2 salads and a medium pizza for $34. AND THE WINE WAS GOOD! For dessert the Creme Brulee was a clean, refreshing finish to a great meal. Not only was it incredibly tasty, but because of my birthday, it was free! All in all, this place provides a comfortable atmosphere, delicious food and excellent service. Can't wait to return again soon!

The server David? was just wonderful, sweet man. Too bad, the night we were there he was the only solo waiter around. Quiet night nonetheless. This place is rather new and the facade of the restaurant like many others in Santa Fe, still throws me off,-being that I'm a city gal. Inside, is cozy and warm. I wouldn't mind the kitchen being closed however (open kitchen) as it isn't really eye candy to stare at. The Calamartachokes was DELICIOUSO. assumed that they blended/infused the two-calamari and artichokes but alas, it was just half/half. booo. but off to a brillant start. I got the linguini with house made meat balls. the meatball are tiny suckers that needs work. Kinda tasted more frozen then reheated rather than home made. Didn't dig it at all but the linguini and marinara sauce was good. Any marinara sauce linguinin will do you justice. Two of our party both got Chicken Piccata..skip this dish. Though described to be appetizing, the chicken was too tough and they had trouble cutting it into pieces. Bleh. My man got the GREEN CHILE BUFFALO LASAGNA. Now, this dish is the ultimate HOMERUN. I normally don't dig lasagna but this was EXCELLENT Don't forget to cop a bottle of wine. Affordable and yum. Dessert was pleaseant. Scored a pumpkin creme brulee. Yums. Espresso Gelato with espresso might do the nightcap just fine. Will probably be back for the Green Chile Buffalo Lasagna next time we're back in town.....

This was my favorite pizza, not now, but still very good. Pasta dishes are tasty and you'll feel comfortable here with personnel and service. Good menu and prices, and a flexible kitchen with changes, love Italian restaurants for that. It's a good reasonable meal, hard to find fault in.

The service was amazing! The music was perfect. I highly recommend the eggplant Parmesan and the pizzas are also super fresh and delicious! This place is incredible and I definitely recommend it.

First time I went was very pleasant however, today I did a call in order for salad and it took 30 mins and was very expensive for out of the bag lettuce and a grilled piece of chicken.

We enjoyed a very pleasant dinner this past Friday evening. The restaurant has a very friendly atmosphere and everyone who took care of us was great. We had a pizza for two special of a 12" two topping pizza, salads, and house wine. It was a good value, and all the food was very tasty. We followed it up with some gelato that was the best I've every tasted. And to top it all off, we enjoyed live music from a very talented trio of musicians. This was our first time at Cafe Cafe, and we'll probably try it again next time we're in Santa Fe.

Stumbled across this place during my visit to Santa Fe. I was tired of green chile everything and decided to give this a shot. So glad I did! Truly amazing food. Their grilled caprese was delicious and filling. I'm taking a slice of their amazing looking cheesecake to go! Service was also top notch.

Extremely underwhelmed! Decided to try this place out because a friend of ours said he liked the pizza and we were very disappointed. We ordered the four cheese pizza with arugula, the deep fried ravioli for appetizer and the tiramisu for dessert. The pizza was flavorless and dull. We had to ask for a side of marinara to dip it in. The deep fried ravioli was okay but needed more seasoning. The tiramisu was a sloppy mess and had the worst flavor of any tiramisu I have ever tried. I thought it was nearly impossible to mess up tiramisu but was very wrong. It also had raisins in it which were just disgusting. The service was also incredibly slow. We sat at our table forever without menus until finally someone came up to us and asked if we were ready to order or if we needed menus. The restaurant was slow at this time so I don't know what was up. It was also confusing because we had about 5 different people help us. The only good thing I can say is that the Marinara sauce was delicious. Very fresh and garlicly. Will definitely not be returning to this restaurant.

My husband and I started coming here when we stayed at a b&b a couple of blocks away. It has changed ownership since then and we like it even better than we did before. Good food, great service and now we live within walking distance. It is our default nice restaurant, where we meet friends, take out-of-town guests and celebrate birthdays. The only reason it gets four stars rather than five is because i once ordered the chicken piccata and it was not at the yummy, lemony-sauced dish I was used to, but rather was plain, rather dry and uninteresting, and also because I don't much care for their tiramisu. Instead, order those yummy eggplant and spaghetti squash appetizers and the veal marsala with a nice wine, followed by a slice of cherry pie. Now that's dinner! (Pizzas are good, too.)

We had a wonderful experience at Cafe Cafe. We sat on the patio, which was delightful, the wine was great, and the food delicious. Our group tried the buffalo lasagna (killer), the special seafood pasta, the eggplant rolls (definitely get these), and fried ravioli. The service was great and the owner is super friendly and stopped by for a chat. It was our last night vacationing in Santa Fe, and going to Cafe Cafe had us leaving on a high note.

We passed by while we were visiting Santa Fe and stopped in. Loved the food so much we decided to have our rehearsal dinner for our wedding on their patio! Not only was the owner and wait staff extremely helpful and quick for such a large party, the food was amazing! Pizzas are incredible, and their bar menu doesn't hurt either. We will come back here every time we are in Santa Fe!

I ate lunch here and, to keep costs reasonable, I only ordered the half Caesar salad with extra anchovies and drank water. This strategy worked great. I only ended up paying about 5.50 for lunch. But this means that I can only review based on a limited experience. That's why I gave the place only 3 stars for now. That said, I look forward to trying this place again. I was happy with my meal. The salad was tasty, service was great and the anchovies were oily, salty and generously represented. Yum.

We excellent dining luck during our recent trip to Santa Fe, and this place was no exception. In fact, it was our "accidental" dinner here that made us realize our good fortune. We'd intended upon being at Corazon for Delicate Steve and Akron/Family, but when we showed up everyone was standing outside, in line, including our friend who had bought us tickets and saved seats for us. Turns out Akron/Family showed up late and so they kicked everyone out of the bar so they could warm up. Since it was freezing cold, GT and I hightailed it to the car and regrouped. We wanted a drink, stat, so we drove until we found one, about a block away. We only intended to have a beer while we waited for the doors to open again (it snowed that night in Santa Fe, so it was far too cold to be standing around outside while some band fiddled around with their guitars, not to mention my bronchitis. Note that I said "only intended to have a beer." Famous last words, right? Of course we can't enter a pizza place and not order pizza, so we ordered a 10-inch Italian meat pizza and a beer. I wanted something sweet, too, so we asked for the dessert menu and decided on the pot du creme and an affogato. "Bring it all out together, since we're trying to catch a show" we affirmed, and our waiter obliged. Being super-easy (affogato) and pre-made (pot du creme), the desserts were ready first. And oh, my, how we adored and devoured them! First I cracked open the shell of chocolate on the pot du creme began spooning generous helpings into my and GT's mouths. Oh, heaven! The chocolate was divine. When the pizza arrived, I felt guilty. I was already full! Well, just one slice..... Famous last words, right? We ate all but two slices of the pie, and later that night polished off the rest. The pizza we enjoyed at Cafe Cafe is one of the best I've ever tasted in my life, and I'm serious about this. Like my vodkas, I take my pizzas very seriously, and this one was stunning. Literally someone's grandmother's secret recipe that the owner (or chef, not sure which) refuses to divulge, the crust was flat-out amazing - light and fluffy, crisp and chewy, buttery and yeasty - all the things a good crust should be. The sauce (what the hell is in there, anyway, crack?) managed to be simultaneously savory and sweet. What began as a quest for a martini turned into one of the dining highlights of our trip to Santa Fe. Run, do not walk to this place and give it your business.

It was good. I had the egg plant parmesan for lunch. It was very cheesy, but tasty. It came with a Caesar salad, and the waitress threw on a few anchovies which I love. Because it was such a beautiful afternoon I sat outside. There were a lot of lies. When I mentioned it to the waitress she said it was because it was going to rain. I had never heard that one before, but maybe that's what happens here. I almost went inside, but I was too lazy to move. With tip it was around $23 which I thought was a bit pricey, but hey, it's Santa Fe.

For lunch, I came here and 50 minutes after I sat and ordered, I received my food. Unfortunately, that's a long wait because I only have a hour lunch break. I'm happy to report that when my food was brought out (Philly Cheese Steak) it was cooked to perfection and was quite tasty and not dry. My friend ordered the salmon salad and that was very good. And they were generous with the size of the salmon. Prices were reasonable. If you have an entry with a drink it will cost you close to $20 - tip included.

The new owners seem to be getting the hang of things. We had an excellent dinner. The service was fantastic and the mushroom pizza (to which we added Italian sausage) was phenominal as always. Prices are still great, so we will return, sooner rather than later!

I really liked this place. It is very small and intimate. I always get nervous when I go to small restaurants .... I don't know why. But when I wanted into Cafe Cafe I knew it was going to be great! We called ahead with reservations. We didn't have to wait at all when we arrived. The wait staff was very friendly and the pizza delicious!!! It was a nice change of pace from the new Mexican cuisine. We had a 12" pizza with pepperoni, sausage, green pepper, black olives, and onions. Fantastic!!! I was stuffed! My only complaint is that it is a bit of a walk from the square (about a half mile). It wasn't too bad though. I would recommend this place to anyone heading down to Santa Fe .... If they want something other than new median dishes! !!!!PERFECTO!!!!

Superb. A hidden gem. Listen carefully to the specials -- always something of interest. But anything on the menu we've tried has been great. Several times, we've split a salad and a pizza, just the right amount of food (with a glass of wine) for a light supper for two. And don't forget to tip the three-man band playing tastefully quiet jazz in the background -- just the thing for a classy dinner mood.

Had plans to eat at one of the 'big' name Sante Fe restaurants and then heard about Cafe Cafe because their chef was a finalist in the local weekend food competition. Glad we decided to try it. Very fresh ingredients. Extrememly innovation menu. Quiet atmosphere. Food was delicious. Tried grilled eggplant roll, grilled caprese salad and the veal marsala. Ended with lemon marscopony brownie and cappucino. Yum. Don't let the small parking lot stop you from finding a place to leave your car. It is well worth the visit.

We split the Cesar salad and added anchovies. It was decent but they had added balsamic vinegar, not a Cesar salad component. My wife had the chicken Parmesan. Really not much better than what you would find for circa $8 except here in Santa Fe. Of course we paid $19. Linguini and white clams sauce was good. Lots of nice clams just could use a touch more butter. Overall way overpriced for the quality and I know Santa Fe prices. Osteria is much better

New Mexico inspired Itqlian food and decor. Enjoyed the Eggplant Parmesan. Nice wine and beer (even non-alcoholic) selection, fresh salads. Convenient to train station (great day trip from Albuquerque!). Excellent, friendly service. Only disappointment was the tiramisu. Might have been better, if it had been given a different name.

Just ate with friends at Cafe cafe tonight. The Risotto Cake is to die for as well as the Calamarichoke with multiple sipping sauces. My husband loved the special spicy salsa they whipped up for him! Latin jazz musicians in the background rounded out our fabulous evening! Thank you Stu and company! Great evening!

Cafe Cafe is among the best, and most understated restaurants in Santa Fe. The high-grade Italian fare is excellent with fresh marinara and a very good wine list. I have dined there for dinner (supper) four or five times in the last few months, and note the consistency of service and product, as well as a varied menu with lots of exciting selections, including a homemade spumoni. Service here is as good as it gets in Santa Fe.

Cafe Cafe, off Cerrillos Road near the 'split' in the road, is a very small restaurant that we only just recently noticed. Since it was Italian, it stayed on my radar until my better half finally said, "cmon, lets go try that place". The menu was pretty small-- consisting of appetizers, salads, pizza, and entrees. The apps and salads were priced in the $8-10 range and the pizzas were reasonably priced. The entrees were a bit pricey and ranged from salmon to tenderloin to a couple of pasta entrees. The pasta dishes didn't seem all that creative so we decided to order a caprese salad and small pizza with pepperoni and italian sausage. The caprese salad was to die for... very good! The thinly sliced eggplant was a nice addition. The pizza was doughier than expected. It was middling for me but my better half loved it. Tastes differ when it comes to pizza :) Anyway, try it out!

This is the best restaurant I've been to in Santa Fe. Great food, great drinks, and great service. The caesar salad was the best I've ever had at a restaurant. The beer I had (a local ale from Pecos) and the wine my wife had were both excellent. I had a very good chicken piccata. I ordered a 16" pepperoni/meatball pizza for my kids - they had a couple of slices and we took the rest with us. It was the best pizza I've ever had - the sauce was amazing, as were the meatballs. The service was excellent, as was the atmosphere.

I went there last night for dinner. After a couple of days of "road food" (e.g. Applebees DQ), it was nice to have something that was made from fresh ingredients. It is a good local restaurant, with a varied menu. One other thing: the portions are reasonable. It's not one of these typical American restaurants with massive portions.

We happened on this place while visiting Santa Fe; we wanted a break from Mexican food.We had the arugula salad and margarita pizza - both were very fresh, tasty and well prepared. Service was perfect and the guy who owns the place was fun to chat with.

  • Julie C.

Had a great meal here, with timely service. The "strezza--something" pasta, thick noodles with earthy mushrooms and smoked roasted tomatoes, was amazing, and the chicken piccata was succulent and lemony without being too tart. The evening's special soup, Tuscan clam chowder, was an interesting and tasty variation on a standard, made with pancetta and a bit of tomato and yes, some red chili flakes, making for a complex, slightly spicy combination. One detail I especially appreciated was that our server, when describing the specials of the day, automatically gave the price for each one, sparing us the awkwardness of having to ask. This little cafe was a find in a town full of overpriced and overblown restaurants. And a bonus? Their very own parking lot. Nice!

Food arrive pretty quickly and was quite good. The portions were a good size but not ridiculously huge. The atmosphere is very nice, fairly casual but a step or two above chain restaurants. It's not far from the plaza train depot, but you wouldn't likely find it unless you went looking for it or just like exploring. Not cheap but not out of line for Santa Fe. The ganache torte with raspberry sauce and strawberries was fantastic.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians.
